In the morning Milly asked me if she could take my portrait.

We started by taking photos of me in the mask in different places around the site. I wanted a photo through one of the old windows that are dotted around the building. We had spoken before about the clothes she makes and how they are fitted but made to be adjustable as peoples sizes change. As someone who’s size changes often and rapidly I thought this was a really beautiful ethos. We decided to take some photos of me wearing the clothes. At one point I took my shoes off and played in the mud barefoot - it had been far too long since I’d done this. It was really lovely to wear clothes that fitted me but flowed with your movement. They were not bound in being masculine or feminine, which are the sort of clothes I always think work best with masks. It was also really nice for someone to want me to model their clothes, people don’t ask me to do things like that, and as someone who has always felt uncomfortable in their body it felt really special.

In the evening we went to the local socialist pub. I had heard good things about it all week and was excited to go. It was a little hole in the wall in Heanor, you practically had to step over the man and his dog to get through the door. It was very busy and I turned a lot of heads as I walked in. At first everyone was friendly if a bit weary of me. We sat down and drank warm and overly sweet pints of home brewed ale.
